The Audi Quattro is one of, if not the, most important car in rally history. It changed the sport of rallying by being the first car to ever successful implement four-wheel-drive and in so doing cemented Audi's reputation.

As a result, the WRC’s YouTube channel has honored the car with a short video about its history filled with great clips of it in competition and interviews with former drivers.

“It was like being hit by a 20-tonne truck from behind,” says Phil Short, former Quattro co-driver. “The power kept coming, the brakes, the handling, everything was just so much of a step up from everything else.”

The Quattro was a revolution in the sport, and it was one of the dominant figures in the Group B era, when rally cars became too quick to be driven safely.

So take a minute to bask in the glory of one of the greatest racing cars in history.
