Autocar Magazine has given the Audi SQ7 TDI their much sought after innovation award for its numerous technological advances. The awards were handed out last night at the historic Silverstone Circuit at a ceremony held by Autocar, which is the world’s oldest car magazine.

The SQ7 gets remarkable performance thanks, in part, to its electric powered compressor, the first to ever reach markets in a production car. The compressor supplements two conventional, exhaust driven, turbochargers and helps to eliminate turbo lag by kicking in at low revs.

All told, the new powerplant provides the SQ7 with 430 hp and 663 lb ft of torque. Impressively, though, all of that torque is available at only 1,000 rpm, meaning that it can reach 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds.

Along with the new electric compressor, the SQ7 also has an electromechanical active-roll stabilization system and adaptive air suspension. The stabilizer significantly reduces roll through the corners and helps the SUV give firm, communicative handling and allows the car to achieve more G when the road gets bendy.

This new SQ7 is the first in the Q7 range to get the “S” and it’s the UK’s fastest accelerating and most powerful diesel SUV. Prices start at  £70,970 and along with the great performance comes with a full complement of interior equipment, like the fully digital virtual cockpit, MMI navigation, and Audi Connect.
