• Audi Tradition celebrates “75 Years of Four Rings” |
Audi Tradition competes this year with ten historic vehicles in the Silvretta Classic. Five of the vehicles take part in the Alpine driving event, though Vorarlberg, Tirol, Graubünden and Liechtenstein. Five more Audi old-timers will also be displayed.
Now in its tenth running, the Silvretta Classic will feature Audi Tradition as its main sponsor this year. It also takes a privileged position on the summer calendar of vintage events, with over 500 teams registered to compete.
To compete in the Silvretta, vintage automobiles must tackle the difficult Alpine course, with its 32 turns up to 2032 meters climbed. Following that, the course climbs to the 2383 meter high Flüelpass. Altogether, the race covers 600 kilometers.
This year, Audi Tradition returns with a promising team. Among them, the six-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner and F1 driver Jackie Ickx, along with German Rallymeister Harald Demuth in a 1983 Audi Sport quattro. Instead of by ski, former Olympic skier and World Skiing Champion Markus Wasmeier will travel through the mountains by car in a 1964 Auto Union 1000 FR Roadster. In addition, Audi Tradition will field a 1958 DKW Monza, a 1970 Audi 100 Coupe, as well as the most recent acquisition of Audi Tradition; a 1958 Auto Union 1000 FR Coupe de Luxe that debuts for the first time at this event since its restoration.
On July 7 at 2:45 PM in Vandans, there will also be a presentation for Audi and its 75th Anniversary of the four rings. On display will be a 1939 Horch 930 V, a 1936 Wanderer W25 K, a 1956 DKW 3=6 Cabriolet, a 1937 Audi Front 225 and the rare 1938 Wanderer Streamliner Special. These cars will be joined by the remaining Audi Tradition cars participating in the race.
The four rings of the Audi badge symbolise the brands Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer, which were later combined under the umbrella of Auto Union. Auto Union and NSU, which merged in 1969, made many significant contributions towards the development of the car. AUDI AG was formed from Audi NSU Auto Union AG in 1985. Together with the two traditional companies Auto Union GmbH and NSU GmbH, Audi Tradition nurtures and presents the deep and diverse history of Audi. The Audi museum mobile at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt is open daily from Monday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
