The Top 3 drivers in qualifying --Luca Rangoni, Stefano Gabellini and Gianni Morbidelli-- have kept their positions form the green light until Lap 7, with each driver nearly 1 second clear of the pursuer, when the safety-car was called in to allow the marshalls to clear the track following a shunt among Francesco Ascani's BMW and Stevo Goldstein's customer RS 4. But the proceedings went on slowly and the stewards even run out of... filling powder and race control wound up red flagging the race with 2 minutes to go, therefore erasing any Morbidelli's hope of a comeback race and leaving ex-WTCC driver Rangoni picking up M3's maiden win.
The Campionato Italiano Superstars has still two rounds to go and only Gabellini can still challenge Morbidelli's leadership.
Audi Sport Italia's Giorgio Sanna--who retired after a collision with Roberto Papini's BMW whilst the pair was fighting for 4th place-- scoreless outing at Varano has dropped him to third in the points standings and he can not run for first place anymore, as with 46 points still available is 50 points adrift of the leader.
