Morbidelli on a Roll: Newly Crowned Campionato Italiano Superstars Champ Wins Sixth in a Row at Monza

The RS 4 driver relinqishes lead just for one, then seals perfect ending to an amazing season. Giorgio Sanna clinches 3rd in the final classification.
The final round of the Italian Superstars Championship may well have been staged whilst on Monza the sun was setting, but the eight 2007 round was everything but twilight for Gianni Morbidelli, who actually shined as never before, even at a circuit whose layout --on the paper-- did not suit the assets of the RS 4. After posting his fifth pole position, the former F1 driver took the lead at the green light in front of the Jaguar pair: Alessandro Balzan and Massimo Pigoli. Former WTCC driver Balzan swiftly claimed the top spot on Lap 2, but the following lap Morbidelli grabbed again the first place at the Parabolica corner, then moved away from the field and went home clinching an astounding sixth successive win. The opposition went therefore winless for sixth months in the V8 series, as the Pesaro driver did not miss a beat after his May win at Magione. Morbidelli at Monza even posted his fifth 2007 fastest lap.
Team mate Giorgio Sanna moved up three spot from his seventh place on the grid, and his fourth place made for him possible to score a third place in the Drivers' standings, behind Morbidelli and Balzan. Young Audi customer Stevo Goldstein was black flagged after a tussle with the BMW 550i driven by Giuliano Alessi.
