Recently Entertainment Weekly broke the news that this summer’s third installment of the Robert Ludlum-based Bourne series The Bourne Ultimatum would include a climactic car chase scene shot on the streets of Manhattan.

''We've had two really great chases in the previous films and they were both stepchildren of the one in The French Connection in a way, and so we felt we had to dare to go back to New York,” said the film’s star Matt Damon to EW. Even better, film director Paul Greengrass says they’ll be true to “the Bourne aesthetic”, meaning they won’t be created with CGI.

Always looking for a good car chase, the news certainly peaked our attention. Spending some time on Google, we learned the story has been there to find for weeks prior to Greengrass’ and Damon’s mention in EW.

Manhattan’s Downtown Express reported in February on Universal Pictures’ presentation to the Community Board 1’s Seaport/Civic Center Committee, revealing some key details about the location of the shoot. To quote the report:

“Lauri Pitkus, a Universal project director, said that the movie will take over parts of South and Dover Sts. and Peck Slip to film a car chase scene from March 17-18, St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The film crew will be on location from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, Pitkus said, and will set up the night before.
The car chase will start at the corner of Market and South Sts. and end near the Department of Transportation lot underneath the Brooklyn Bridge at the corner of Dover and South Sts., Pitkus said.”

Then, during the filming in New York, the aLive from New York… blog posted photos from a visit to the set on the day the crew shot at Manhattan’s Port Authority.

From the looks of it, the film’s main character will be utilizing a previous generation (C5) Audi A6 for at least part of the chase sequence. No additional details, including cars involved, have yet to be released.

If that’s not enough, filmmakers also revealed that the movie will include a rooftop motorcycle sequence set in Tangiers.

A new DVD set promoting the The Bourne Ultimatum will be released in the USA on July 24th – a set containing the two previous movies, plus plenty of extras like deleted scenes and a limited preview of the new movie. Following that, the new movie will debut in theatres in August.
