The S6 begs to be driven hard, but we've recently become annoyed by its aggressive gas-pedal modulation. The throttle is entirely drive-by-wire, and we expect quick tip-in whenever we select the transmission's "S" sport mode. But even in the standard "drive" position the car jumps like a frightened alley cat if your right foot is anything less than gentle. We've come to appreciate the car's 6-speed Tiptronic box as much as we're capable of loving a torque-converter automatic, but the jumpy launches are a nuisance — especially when the guy in the Charger next to you thinks you want a shot at the heavyweight belt.
The executive-class digs of the S6 are also easy to love. Whether it’s a two-year old and her Brittax Marathon bound for Toys-R-Us or a car-load of another editor’s lady-friends bound for DC clubs on a Saturday night, the S6 spoils in most every case. There’s a little bit of suspension harshness on potholes, but the glutes don’t really mind when held by the car’s supple leather.
