2006 Chicago Auto Show: Audi Perspective

Each February, the ‘Windy City’ plays host to the Chicago Auto Show. It may not be as important a date on the schedule of the auto industry as the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and the LA Auto Show, but Chicago’s location means it draws in perhaps some of the largest numbers of attendees of any American show, and as such, it’s no event to miss.

There were no new concept car introductions or world launches for Audi in Chicago, but that doesn’t mean there was nothing new to see. To the discerning eye of an Audi enthusiast, two rather significant finds were there to be seen.

First and foremost is the new ‘Titanium Package’ for the A4 S-line. The package includes the same 18-inch 15-spoke wheels from quattro GmbH that are fitted to the European A4 DTM Edition and the North American S4 25quattro, though finished in a smoked Titanium shade for this application. It also includes a polished black front grille frame similar to one we’d spotted at the Essen Motorshow in Germany back in November, black window trim, black headliner and ‘Piano Black’ interior beltline trim. We hear Avants will also get black roof rails.

The Titanium Package will be available on both 3.2 A4 S-lines and the 2.0T S-line as it was shown at Chicago and at dealerships this Spring. Expect pricing to be about $500 more than the standard S-line packages for the USA and should be available on all standard exterior colors.

Another significant find was the new S6. A similar car had been shown at Detroit last month, though the Chicago display car features the standard 18-inch wheel design rather than the 19-inch optional wheel seen in Detroit and in all press photos of the newest S-car thus far.

If that’s not enough to draw you down Lakeshore Drive to McCormick Place during the Chicago Auto Show’s public days (Feb 10-19, 2006), perhaps the rest of the range might coax you in. Highlights include the new Q7, S8 and a North American-spec RS 4 sedan.
