Now in its fifth year, the 2005 Waterwagens show at Pacific Raceways outside of Kent, WA is one to add to the VW/Audi show-scene “Do Not Miss” list. This year, over 3,000 attendees came out to the show, with over 300 Volkswagens and Audis on display and another 100 taking part in the on-location drag races.
This year’s event, sponsored by Bahn Brenner Motorsport, drew enthusiasts from much of the western United States and Canada, and in some cases even longer distances.
Waterwagens Car Show area is made up of more than twenty classes of cars between Volkswagen and Audi. And, interestingly, you can both show your car and race it in the drag race, something you don’t always see at these sorts of events. Conveniently, these owners who like to show and go can have their cars judged early in the day and still have time to make tech inspection for the races – free to flatten bugs in a carefree manner as they blast down the dragstrip.
The day’s events also included a large raffle, a Beer Garden for the 21+ crowd, a large vendor area and more.
Amongst the vendors was Volkswagen of America. Representatives of the company showed up with several right-hand drive GTIs to display and offered thrill rides on portions of the road course at Pacific Raceways.
The Sunday event was preceded by a casual barbecue at local tuner Achtuning. We attended and shot that event as well. Look for coverage of Saturday’s events next week.
