In Hamburg at the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein the new Platoon, powered by Team Germany, project was officially launched. AUDI AG complement their support of the 2008 AUDI MedCup Circuit as sponsor of the German TP52 project with Adidas as Official Clothing Partner.
At the launch there were representatives from Norddeutscher Regattaverein Yacht Club, AUDI AG, Adidas and Platoon powered by Team Germany.
While the new boat is due to arrive in Valencia later this week, there was a model of the new Judel/Vroljk design fully branded in the team sponsors’ colours.
Along with owner Harm Mueller-Spreer and the team’s four times Olympic medal winning Sports Director Jochen Schuemann, Tim Kroeger (GER) will sail as grinder, Liam Porter-Domizloff (GER) is Boat captain and Jan Schoepe is mast-man.
The project is ‘powered’ by Team Germany, the America’s Cup team. Jochen Schümann highlighted Germany improving profile as a sailing nation saying:
“We are not at the level we should be. Audi MedCup Circuit offers a unique platform for our team that we will use to build the German team together, develop our skills and improve our performance using this circuit as a platform and racing against the best teams in the world."
"I have won and defended the (America’s) Cup. Now it is time for me for new challenges. I am proud to part of the German team and sail under the German flag, leading our team to our best potential and results, and to be competing at the top of the sport, with the vision of getting ready to sail as German team in the America's Cup.”
