The inaugural Audi German Operatic Award has been presented to Leah Thomas, a soprano from NSW. The presentation was made at the conclusion of the Audi German Operatic Award Finals Concert which was held at the Conservatorium of Music in Sydney on 7 October 2007.
Six finalists performed at the concert and the winner, Leah Thomas, will join Cologne Opera Ensemble for up to twelve months during the 2008/ 2009 season. Leah will also drive an Audi A3 Sportback for 12 Months as part of her prize.
Audi Australia’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, said “I was very impressed by all of the finalists performances. Audi’s core values of sophistication and progressiveness are clearly demonstrated by the creation of the Audi German Operatic Award and this underlines the brand’s commitment to innovation, not only through its vehicles and through technology, but also by supporting performing arts - bringing them to life in Australia.”
“We believe that the future development of Audi in Australia calls for a commitment to the arts and culture, as well as other key sponsorship activities.” Mr Hofmann continued.
